Businesswoman raises alarm over safety of her sister, family

A middle-aged businesswoman, Mrs. Jumoke Oladepo, has raised alarm over an alleged plot by suspected cultists to kidnap her sister and her family.

Mrs. Oladepo disclosed that her sister, Oluwatoyin Adefabi, her husband, Adeyemi Adefabi, and their two children, Oluwatise and Esther, are currently living in constant fear, as they are being hunted by members of the Oro cult from her sister’s husband’s family.

Speaking with newsmen at the Lagos Secretariat of the Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mrs. Oladepo explained the family’s predicament. She revealed that the trouble began when her brother-in-law, Mr. Adeyemi Adefabi, refused to comply with an order from the Oro oracle in Iseyin, Oyo State, demanding that he perform certain rituals to appease the gods of their town.

“My sister and her entire family are now the target of members of the Oro cult group because her husband firmly rejected their demand in January 2020,” Mrs. Oladepo said. “Since then, they have been living in constant fear.”

She elaborated that Mr. Adefabi’s refusal to obey the cult’s demand stemmed from his personal beliefs. Born into a traditional worshipping family, he had once practised the faith but later converted to Christianity. Mrs. Oladepo explained that the cult members had followed him ever since, subjecting his family to relentless pressure.

The family’s troubles intensified in February 2023 when the traditional worshippers approached Mr. Adefabi again. After he refused to comply, they visited the family’s new apartment the following month, armed with charms and weapons, and threatened to harm him and his family.

“Each time they came, they sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood, vandalising property of those they accused of sheltering the man,” Mrs. Oladepo added, urging the authorities to intervene and protect her sister’s family.

She also revealed that unidentified, intimidating men, believed to be searching for Mr. Adefabi and his family, were seen in Ayinde Street, Lagos State, where the family had recently relocated.

In addition, Mrs. Oladepo mentioned that her sister, Oluwatoyin Adefabi, is reportedly a wanted person by the police, accused of immoral acts and homosexuality..
