Suspected bandits stormed Chacho village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State early Sunday and abducted a bride to be along with her bridesmaids, just hours before her scheduled wedding ceremony.
The attackers, who struck around 1:30 a.m., also kidnapped seven other women and one man, bringing the number of abducted residents to at least ten. One person was injured during the raid and is receiving treatment in hospital.
A resident, who spoke anonymously, described the attack as heartbreaking, noting that the bride and her companions were taken shortly before daybreak preparations were to begin. “Her wedding was to take place this morning,” he said. “She was abducted along with her friends who were to serve as bridesmaids.”
He added that security operatives were alerted during the invasion but arrived about an hour after the gunmen had fled.
“We are appealing to the government to live up to its responsibility of protecting lives and property,” the resident said.
Sokoto State Police Command spokesman, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed the incident, saying details were still emerging as investigations continue.
