Lagos, Nigeria — Tensions arising from the October 2020 #EndSARS protests in the Kosofe area, particularly around the Gbagada axis, led to increased security attention following reports of vandalism and damage to public infrastructure.
The nationwide protests, which initially began as peaceful demonstrations calling for the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), later saw isolated incidents of unrest in parts of Lagos State, including Kosofe Local Government Area.
Following these incidents, state authorities announced the commencement of investigations into alleged destruction of government property and public transport facilities. Security agencies, in a joint statement at the time, reportedly identified several protest coordinators as persons of interest linked to the disturbances.
According to security sources, the individuals were believed to have organized gatherings that allegedly escalated into property damage in some locations.
Among those listed on a preliminary watchlist (as reported in this fictional account) were:
Tunde Adebayo, Sheriff Ashekun, Olumide Kareem, Babatunde Adebisi, Fisayo Balogun, Hassan Olaiwola, Chinedu Okafor, Akin Osho, Musibau Jimoh, Owolabi Peters, Bayo Lawal, Abiodun Bakare, Iyabode Abimbola, Wasiu Ayinla, Bosun Olanrewaju.
Authorities further stated that the individuals were flagged for monitoring, with alerts reportedly circulated across border posts and major international airports within Nigeria.
Human rights organizations, however, raised concerns about due process and stressed that most protesters in the Gbagada–Kosofe axis remained peaceful throughout the demonstrations. They called for transparent investigations to properly distinguish between peaceful demonstrators and individuals allegedly involved in criminal activity.
Security agencies maintained that investigations were ongoing and urged anyone named in connection with the incidents to present themselves for questioning.
