Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council, signaling a significant administrative shift as the state prepares for the 2027 gubernatorial elections.
The dissolution is specifically necessitated by Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates that no political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election, where such a person has not resigned their appointment before the date of such convention or congress.
The decision is aimed at providing an enabling environment for any council member who intends to seek elective positions in the forthcoming general elections, ensuring that their political aspirations do not conflict with their official duties.
In a directive issued following the announcement, the Governor ordered all serving Commissioners to formally hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to their Permanent Secretaries.
This transition is expected to be completed on or before the deadline of Friday, April 3, 2026. This move ensures that the administrative functions of the state government continue without interruption while the political landscape evolves.
Governor Zulum expressed his profound appreciation to the outgoing cabinet members, praising their dedication and commitment to the service of the state.
He specifically noted their invaluable contributions to the ongoing development and recovery efforts in Borno, acknowledging that their efforts have been central to the progress recorded during his administration’s current tenure.
