A heart-wrenching story of a young Nigerian whose uncle betrayed him for property has gained momentum, as the supposed heir flees for his dear life.
Olamide Agboola described his ordeal as a harrowing experience of betrayal, violence, and political persecution following the murder of his father, Mr Oluwole Agboola, a prominent businessman in Nigeria’s automotive industry.
Olamide Razaq Agboola was born into affluence in Ibadan, Oyo State, as the first son of one of Nigeria’s most respected car dealers. He was raised as the heir to a business empire with ten branches across Nigeria.
Narrating his ordeal, Agboola said that after his father’s demise, his uncle began to use every avenue to eliminate him.
He narrowly escaped a sponspred attack and death trap allegedly set up by his uncle on December 23rd, 2024, which marked the beginning of spiritual and physical threats to his life.
Speaking to our correspondent, Agboola said, “My father trained me to take over. He even brought his younger brother, Mr Dipo Agboola (my uncle), into the business, believing family would always protect family.” That trust, Agboola said, was tragically misplaced.
His father was murdered on December 20, 2022, in what initially seemed like a robbery but quickly unravelled into something far more sinister. Police investigations, according to Agboola, later pointed to his uncle as the primary suspect in the killing.
“The betrayal was worse than the grief,” Agboola said, tears rolling down his face. “We buried him in accordance with Islamic rites, but before the mourning even ended, my uncle took over everything.”
Agboola’s uncle blocked lawyers from executing his father’s will, which had named him as the rightful successor. Instead, his uncle seized control of the company and allegedly began to take actions to eliminate Agboola entirely.
“I was arrested on trumped-up charges, threatened, and haunted,” he said, claiming his uncle used high-level political connections to weaponise the justice system against him. Fearing for his life and the safety of his family, Agboola went into hiding. His partner and young daughter, Olarinre Haadiya Agboola, fled to an undisclosed location after warnings from her family.
“If I wasn’t safe; neither were they.” From late 2022 through early 2025, Agboola moved between several Nigerian states, including Lagos, Ibadan, Ekiti, Enugu, and Ogun, in a desperate attempt to evade what he calls an orchestrated effort to silence him.
According to him, there is ample evidence that he narrowly escaped two assassination attempts during this time. “I didn’t just lose my father. I lost my future, my company, my family’s trust—and nearly, my life,” he said.
