Bayern Munich signs João Palhinha from Fulham

Bayern Munich has officially announced the signing of Portuguese defensive midfielder João Palhinha from Fulham.

The Bundesliga champions have finally secured their long-standing target after a protracted transfer saga that began last summer.

Palhinha, 29, joins Bayern on a permanent deal, reportedly for a fee around €40 million, although the exact terms have not been disclosed by the clubs.

He underwent his medical in Munich earlier this week and has put pen to paper on his new contract.

This move marks a significant reinforcement for Bayern’s midfield, an area identified by coach Vincent Kompany as crucial for strengthening. Palhinha’s arrival is expected to provide robust defensive capabilities and ball-winning prowess, traits highly valued by the Bavarian giants.

The Portuguese international had been a standout performer for Fulham in the Premier League since joining them in 2022, earning a reputation as one of the league’s most effective defensive midfielders.

His initial attempt to move to Bayern last summer famously fell through on deadline day, but the persistent interest from the German club has finally paid off.

Palhinha expressed his excitement about joining Bayern, stating his ambition to win titles with the club. His integration into the squad will be closely watched as Bayern prepares to challenge for both domestic and European honours in the upcoming season.
