Bayelsa State has been ranked among four states in Nigeria with the least level of indebtedness.
This news according to a statement from the State Government is a confirmation of the prudent management of resources and accountability by the current Government of Assured Prosperity under Governor Douye Diri.
Accordingly, Bayelsa has shown strong fiscal management, with 2025 reports highlighting it as the only state in Nigeria with almost 50% budget implementation in its half-year analysis.
According to the recent indebtedness data by the Debt Management Office (DMO) as of 2025–2026, Bayelsa, Ondo, Yobe and Jigawa states were the four least indebted states in the full ranking of the 36 states.
Lagos State remains the highest indebted state followed by Kaduna, which is closely followed by Rivers, Edo and Ogun states.
