…As security forces launch rescue mission
A member of the Amotekun Corps has been abducted by suspected bandits in Budo Alhaji village, Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, prompting a coordinated security operation to locate and rescue him.
The victim, identified as Rabiu Akeem, was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday, 14 July, at around 5:30 p.m. while collecting firewood in the forest along the Ighoho–Igbope–Igbeti road. A security source said Akeem was one of three armed Amotekun personnel deployed to the area when they were suddenly ambushed by gunmen.
Confirming the incident, the Amotekun Commander for Orelope LGA, known simply as Taofeeq, together with another officer, Ogunikojo Ojekunle Lekan, reported the abduction to the Ighoho Police Division at approximately 10:53 p.m. the same day.
A joint team of operatives from the Amotekun Corps and other security agencies has since launched a search-and-rescue operation across the forest and nearby communities.
The abduction has increased anxiety in Orelope, a local government area that has witnessed a number of violent attacks by armed groups in recent months.
