Attack on Operation burst base a sign of security failure under Makinde — Oyo APC

15 Sept 2026

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has stated that the recent invasion of a security base by suspected bandits highlights critical security failures under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

In a statement released on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, the party reacted to an incident where armed bandits attacked a base belonging to the state’s security outfit, Operation Burst, along the Igbeti-Igboho road in the early hours of Sunday.

According to reports, the assailants operated unchecked for over an hour, carting away items including a generator and a motorcycle before escaping.

The opposition party slammed the state government over the whereabouts and efficacy of the security surveillance aircraft previously procured by the administration, questioning why no aerial tracking or response was deployed while the base came under prolonged attack.

The APC contended that the incident underscores systemic vulnerabilities in the state’s security framework and called on the executive leadership to prioritize tangible protection for citizens over cosmetic expenditures.
