At 62, you continue to inspire Nigerians — President Tinubu hails Fashola

President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to former Lagos State Governor and former Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, as he marks his 62nd birthday, describing him as an exceptional administrator whose contributions to governance and national development continue to inspire many Nigerians.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended Fashola’s remarkable record in public service, highlighting his commitment to progressive governance, professionalism and nation-building.

Fashola, who turns 62 on June 28, was praised by Tinubu as a distinguished legal practitioner and patriotic Nigerian whose years in public office have left a lasting imprint on the country, particularly in Lagos State.

Reflecting on their long-standing political relationship, Tinubu recalled Fashola’s service as Chief of Staff in Lagos State between 2003 and 2006 before succeeding him as governor in 2007. According to the President, Fashola consolidated and expanded the achievements of the progressive administration through far-reaching reforms and infrastructure development.

Tinubu noted that under Fashola’s leadership, Lagos witnessed significant improvements in transportation, security, healthcare, education, environmental management and public sector administration. He added that the former governor’s dedication to excellence helped position Lagos as a model of innovation and sustainable urban development in Nigeria.

The President also acknowledged Fashola’s contributions at the federal level, where he served in the Federal Executive Council from 2015 to 2023, overseeing the critical ministries of Works, Power and Housing. Tinubu said the former minister demonstrated competence and dedication while handling some of the nation’s most strategic sectors.

Describing Fashola as a leader of integrity, intellectual depth and unwavering commitment to good governance, Tinubu said his achievements would remain a reference point in public administration.

The President concluded by praying for Fashola’s continued good health, wisdom and strength, expressing confidence that the former governor would continue to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s growth, unity and prosperity in the years ahead.
