The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has declared a two week warning strike at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi Uku, over alleged certificate racketeering that has brought the institution into public disrepute.
The union said the decision followed the state government’s failure to decisively address the lingering crisis between the Governing Council and the institution’s management.
ASUP Chairman, Dr. Michael Ohana, announced the strike on Tuesday, lamenting that the alleged result forgery scandal, which has gone viral on social media, had tarnished the image of both staff and the institution.
“Our members are the worst hit. When we relate with the outside world, we can no longer proudly say we are staff of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku,” Ohana said. “Meanwhile, essential supplies and resources for teaching and learning have become a far cry.”
The union accused the Governing Council of mismanaging the issue, recalling the suspension of the Registrar in February 2025 and the Rector in July 2025 over what it described as “unverified and unfounded allegations.”
ASUP urged the state government to act on existing investigative reports rather than setting up “endless committees,” while also calling on the Nigerian Police to stop harassing staff members allegedly linked to forged results.
The union demanded the arrest and prosecution of the whistleblower, Raphael Ufua, whose claims of certificate fraud, it said, were false and damaging to the school’s reputation.
It maintained that the scandal was the handiwork of a few individuals who were neither principal officers nor management staff.
