APPO to host inaugural energy investment roundtable in New York during UNGA 2025

The Africa Petroleum Producers Organisation (APPO) has announced the launch of the 1st Annual Energy Investment Roundtable, New York (2025), scheduled to take place alongside the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

This high-level event is designed to draw global attention to Africa’s untapped energy potential and stimulate substantial international investment into the continent’s evolving energy landscape.

“This is more than a conference. It is a strategic platform to mobilise capital, forge partnerships, and champion sustainable energy development across Africa. By meeting in New York during the UNGA, we aim to ensure maximum global visibility and involvement,” said Dr Omar Farouk Ibrahim, Secretary General of APPO.

As the global energy industry undergoes rapid transformation, Africa stands at a defining moment. The continent is rich in resources yet constrained by a persistent funding gap. The roundtable seeks to confront this issue by attracting targeted investments, particularly from the United States’ extensive capital markets.

Dr Ibrahim stated that unlocking financial flows from the U.S. into Africa’s energy infrastructure, while boosting investor confidence through direct engagement and expert insights, would chart a course towards a more stable and prosperous energy future for both Africa and its partners.

The core objectives of the roundtable include showcasing investment opportunities across Africa’s energy sectors; fostering collaboration between African governments and international investors; advancing sustainable development and diversification of energy sources; and presenting Africa’s potential in alignment with global climate and development goals.

Despite Africa’s proximity to some of the world’s leading financial hubs, its energy sector remains largely absent from U.S. capital markets. This roundtable aims to change that dynamic by offering a platform for meaningful dialogue between APPO member states, Wall Street stakeholders, global energy corporations, and development partners.

James Shindi, Chief Executive of Brevity Anderson, the event organisers, remarked, “Drawing from our proven success with the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) since 2018, we are committed to delivering a world-class forum that will redefine the narrative around African energy investment.”

The anticipated surge in investment is expected to generate employment, enhance energy security, support renewable energy initiatives, and facilitate the transfer of technology. These outcomes are closely aligned with the continent’s broader ambitions for economic diversification and environmental resilience.

Governments of APPO member states, financial institutions, and development partners are encouraged to give their full backing to this landmark initiative.

The Africa Petroleum Producers Organisation is a continental body comprising Africa’s leading oil-producing nations. APPO’s mandate is to foster cooperation, harmonise energy policies, and attract investment to support the sustainable development of the continent’s energy resources.
