The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Leader in Oyo State, Olalekan Glory, has condemned the rising wave of insecurity across the state, accusing the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde of failing to protect lives and property.
In a statement made available to journalists, Glory described the recent attacks on three schools in the Orire Local Government Area and the increasing cases of kidnapping across the state as disturbing and unacceptable.
According to the statement, “The recent attacks on three schools within the Orire Local Government Area, alongside the disturbing wave of kidnappings and insecurity across Oyo State, have once again exposed the failure of the present administration under Governor Seyi Makinde to protect the lives and property of citizens.”
“It is heartbreaking that innocent residents, school communities, travelers, farmers, and families now live in fear while the state government continues to treat serious security concerns with political complacency and media propaganda instead of decisive action.”
“I strongly condemn the growing insecurity ravaging different parts of Oyo State, particularly the recent Orire school attacks and abductions. No responsible government should remain comfortable while citizens are kidnapped, communities terrorized, and parents left uncertain about the safety of their children.”
“What makes this situation even more unacceptable is the fact that Oyo State receives huge monthly allocations and security votes from the Federal Government. With the enormous resources available to the state, the people deserve visible and effective security interventions, not excuses and political grandstanding.”
“The lives of the people of Oyo State must never be sacrificed on the altar of politics.
“We therefore call on the Makinde-led administration to immediately declare a state of emergency on security in Oyo State, deploy all necessary resources, and collaborate fully with security agencies to rescue all abducted victims without delay.”
“Furthermore, the government must strengthen intelligence gathering and local security architecture across vulnerable communities, stop politicizing insecurity, and begin to treat the safety of citizens as its primary responsibility.”
“The people of Oyo State deserve peace, safety, and leadership that responds with urgency in moments like this. Silence, excuses, and political distractions cannot secure our communities.”
“We stand with the affected families and call on the government to act immediately before the security situation deteriorates further,” the statement concluded.
