The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on opposition parties and critics of President Bola Tinubu to adopt a politics anchored on ideas rather than bitterness, warning that democracy cannot thrive on grievance-driven narratives.
The party made the call in a statement issued on Monday in Lagos by its spokesman, Mr. Seye Oladejo, who said democratic development depends on constructive engagement and credible policy alternatives.
Oladejo said democracy flourishes through a contest of ideas, not what he described as politics of bitterness, obstruction and incitement.
He added that an opposition that relies solely on complaints and outrage does not strengthen democracy but undermines it.
According to him, the APC observed that opposition parties remained confused, divided and lacking credible policy alternatives despite repeated electoral opportunities, forcing Nigerians to endure exaggerated despair, selective memory loss and orchestrated outrage.
He noted that the persistent refusal by opposition parties to accept electoral outcomes was neither democratic nor patriotic, stressing that accountability should not be misrepresented as persecution in a constitutional democracy.
Oladejo said criminal allegations and court proceedings should not be portrayed as political witch-hunts, adding that accountability does not translate to persecution except in the imagination of a desperate opposition.
He further urged opposition parties to take responsibility for their internal challenges instead of blaming institutions or external forces, insisting that political incompetence could not be cured by shifting blame.
The APC spokesman also called on opposition figures to show moral clarity by unequivocally condemning terrorism, criminality and violence, warning that selective outrage erodes moral authority.
Oladejo cautioned against what he described as reckless rhetoric and constant predictions of national collapse, insisting that Nigeria is not a failed state and should not be portrayed as such by those seeking leadership.
While accusing the opposition of focusing on complaints, he said the APC-led Federal Government under President Tinubu was engaged in the difficult task of governance, including fixing a distorted economy and strengthening the nation’s security architecture.
He added that although the decisions being taken by the Tinubu administration were tough, they were necessary to secure a better future for the country.
Oladejo urged opposition parties to adopt a new political culture built on ideas, patriotism and credible alternatives, noting that Nigerians were no longer impressed by political tantrums and would continue to support leadership focused on building rather than complaining.
