The All Progressives Congress (APC) five-member Fact-Finding and Reconciliation Committee has vowed to resolve the leadership crisis rocking the party in Anambra.
The committee headed by the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr. Benjamin Nwoye, made the vow when it visited the Enugu State Governor, Mr Peter Mbah on Monday at the Enugu.
Nwoye said the team was in Enugu to brief the governor of their movement to Anambra as its sponsor.
The newsmen report that the leadership crisis in Anambra APC involves rival factions led by Mr Emma Anosike and Chief Ifeanyi Osegbo, on the control of the party’s state secretariat.
It also involves contested congresses and parallel legal battles ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The rival factions each laid claim to the legitimate control of the party structure, with the Osegbo faction moving to occupy the state secretariat in Awka following conflicting court rulings.
Speaking to newsmen after the visit, Nwoye said the committee was in Enugu to appreciate Mbah for supporting the party’s peace initiative in Anambra.
“The courtesy visit stems from his acceptance to sponsor the mission of peace in Anambra State APC.
“When the committee was inaugurated, Gov. Mbah was nominated to sponsor the peace mission and he did,” Nwoye said.
The committee chairman explained that the reconciliation followed recent court rulings affecting the party’s leadership in the state.
He said although a court had removed Anosike from office and restrained him from acting as state chairman, the party had appealed the judgment and obtained a stay of execution.
“Sen. Emma Anosike remains the chairman of the party in Anambra State until further notice,” Nwoye stated.
He also dismissed reports that the party’s immediate past governorship candidate, Mr. Nicholas Ukachukwu, had distanced himself from the APC.
According to him, Ukachukwu remains a bona fide member and a respected leader of the party in Anambra.
“He is actively leading the reconciliation efforts. Any claim that he has left the party is not true,” Nwoye said.
He stressed that the committee had already held several stakeholder engagements in Abuja and would continue consultations in Awka with party members across the state.
“We have met with members of the stakeholders in Abuja. We are now in Enugu before proceeding to Awka for further stakeholder engagements.
“We considered it necessary to first appreciate Mbah for sponsoring the peace mission and for all he has done for the party,” he added.
Nwoye said the committee would engage stakeholders at the grassroots, including youths, women, persons with disabilities and party leaders from the 326 wards across the 21 Councils in Anambra.
The committee leader said the engagement was aimed at reassuring members that the National Working Committee (NWC) remained committed to restoring unity in the state chapter.
“We want to tell them that the National Working Committee is with the party, that peace has returned, and that APC is united and ready to fight for every single vote and every elective position in Anambra State,” he said.
On the appointment of non-APC members into government positions, Nwoye described it as part of nation-building, saying such appointments were the constitutional prerogative of President Bola Tinubu.
“Our mission is to find a lasting peace in Anambra State APC. Who serves in government is the prerogative of Mr. President, and we support his decisions,” he said.
