The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) plans to win the 2027 presidential elections by hook or crook.
This is as the party also accused the APC of orchestrating a systemic campaign to dismantle opposition structures.
In a statement released by the PDP factional National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP expressed grave concern that vital national institutions including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the judiciary, and even the clergy are being deployed as executioners of a plan to stifle political competition.
The PDP argued that recent actions by INEC, such as the derecognition of the David Mark-led National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signal a troubling pattern of interpretation that consistently favors the ruling party’s interests.
The statement further highlighted rumors surrounding INEC’s monitoring activities, which the PDP fears may lead to the mass de-registration of opposition parties to ensure an uncontested election.
Ememobong warned that such maneuvers have pushed the country’s political temperature to near-fever levels, threatening the very survival of Nigeria’s democratic journey.
The party further appealed to national institutions to resist the influence of appointing authorities and prioritize the interests of the country over partisan gain.
Warning that public patience is being stretched to its limits, the PDP stressed that the credibility of the 2027 polls depends entirely on whether these institutions can maintain their independence and prevent the election from becoming a mere formality.
