Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima led other prominent APC leaders on Tuesday to formally receive Governor Dauda Lawal and his followers into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At a grand reception in Gusau, the Vice President described the defection as a strategic win for national stability, asserting that the unification of the state’s political leadership under one fold would hasten the end of the security challenges plaguing the region.

The Vice President who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, assured the people of Zamfara that the federal government is working tirelessly to ensure that the end to insecurity is in sight.

He argued that with Governor Lawal joining forces with the APC-led central government, the state’s security apparatus would benefit from better collaboration and a unified front.

The Vice President further predicted that opposition parties like the PDP and ADC would cease to thrive in the state now that its major political actors are knitted together under the progressive banner.

The event served as a rare show of political reconciliation, as Governor Lawal pledged to work harmoniously with his predecessors, including the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and Senator Abdulazeez Yari.
