No fewer than 12 governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) arrived in Ado-Ekiti on Friday to show solidarity with Governor Biodun Oyebanji ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
The governors, drawn from different parts of the country, converged on the Ekiti State capital as the ruling party intensified its final preparations for the crucial poll.
Among those on the ground were Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State, and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State.
The high-profile presence of the governors underscored the significance the APC leadership attaches to the Ekiti governorship election and its determination to secure victory for Governor Oyebanji.
Also present in Ado-Ekiti was the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Hon. Ibrahim Masari, who joined other party leaders and stakeholders in mobilising support for the governor.
The influx of APC governors and top government officials heightened political activities across the state as parties made last-minute efforts to canvass support from voters ahead of the election.
Saturday’s governorship poll is expected to witness a keen contest among candidates of various political parties, with security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) assuring residents of a peaceful, free, and credible electoral process.
