The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for more support and inclusion for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the country as it distributed cash and food items to hundreds of beneficiaries in Abuja.
The beneficiaries, drawn from different disability groups in the Federal Capital Territory and nearby communities, received the assistance during an event held at the APC National Secretariat on Tuesday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the APC National Leader of Persons with Disabilities, Tolu Bankole, the party said the programme was organised to support vulnerable people and encourage greater participation of PWDs in politics and national development.
Speaking on behalf of the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, his Principal Private Secretary, Jibrin Bancir, welcomed the beneficiaries and assured them of the party’s commitment to their welfare.
He said the APC leadership was supporting efforts to improve the lives of persons with disabilities and ensure they benefit from government programmes and policies.
Bancir urged the beneficiaries to continue supporting the APC and President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying the government remained committed to improving the lives of Nigerians.
Also speaking, Bankole thanked the party leadership for supporting initiatives aimed at helping persons with disabilities.
He said the distribution of food items and cash was part of ongoing efforts to provide relief and opportunities for PWDs across the country.
Many of the beneficiaries, including members of the visually impaired and hearing-impaired communities, expressed appreciation for the support, describing it as timely given the current economic situation.
The APC also used the event to call for greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in government, business and other areas of public life.
The party urged government agencies, private organisations and other stakeholders to work together to create more opportunities for PWDs and help build a society where everyone can contribute to national development regardless of physical ability.
