The Osun state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of failing to curb the widespread vandalism and looting of water schemes across various communities.
The party alleged that organized groups have been dismantling equipment from water facilities, with some individuals reportedly claiming to act on behalf of the state government while removing vital components.
In a statement released on Thursday by the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party highlighted recent incidents in communities such as Igangan-Ijesa, Iperindo, and Osu within the Atakumosa East and Atakumosa West Local Government Areas.
In these locations, residents reportedly resisted attempts by hoodlums to plunder the facilities, leading to confrontations that nearly escalated into physical violence.
Olabisi alleged that these vandals operate by misleading locals into believing their mission is official, subsequently selling off looted parts of water schemes that were established as legacy projects by previous administrations.
The APC further claimed that the lack of oversight has allowed these criminal activities to thrive, contributing to a sense of anarchy and retarding the state’s progress.
The statement also raised concerns regarding the alleged fraudulent sale of used vehicles in state-owned tertiary institutions, suggesting that such incidents point to a broader pattern of state assets being looted through the back door.
The APC argued that the current administration’s inability to secure these public utilities reflects poorly on its governance over the past three years.
Concluding the statement, the APC called upon the police and other security agencies to extend their surveillance and investigative efforts to track down the masterminds behind these organized crimes.
The party urged the authorities to arrest and prosecute those responsible for plundering the state’s common patrimony to ensure the maintenance of peace and the protection of public infrastructure.
