…As Adeleke, APC trade blame over attack
By Ismail Azeez
Governor Ademola Adeleke has visited victims of the violent clash between supporters of the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC), who are currently receiving treatment at the Osun State Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.
Nigerian NewsDirect reports that the violent clash triggered sporadic shooting in the Owode, Aisu, Olaiya, and Oke-Fia areas of the state capital with some persons sustaining injuries.
Governor Adeleke who conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the condition of the victims, expressed concern over the wave of violence reported in parts of Osogbo, Ede and Ile-Ife, describing the attacks as unacceptable and a threat to public peace
He condemned in the possible terms the coordinated attacks on residents of Ile Ife, Ede and Osogbo today by the alledged pro-Ambo political thugs, urging the president to call Mr Gboyega Oyetola and Bola Oyebamiji to order.
Addressing the journalists at press briefing, the Governor said the dastardly acts occurred at Ile Ife after which the attackers proceeded to Akoda, Owode, Olaiya, Old Garage, Okefia and other parts of Osogbo, explaining that the attackers in a 15 vehicle convoy branded with AMBO pictures paraded the towns without any response from the police.
“As at the time of calling this press conference, several residents were feared injured and even one or two people killed. The attackers are led by thugs known as Aleba and Asiri
“I condemn in the strongest possible terms the destabilising roles of Marine Minister, Gboyega Oyetola and the Osun APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. The provocation is getting to an unbearable level. For the past few months, I have been calming my people to maintain peace despite persistent attacks.
“I call on the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of DSS and other top security officials to shine a special light on Osun state. I appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call Mr Oyetola and Oyebamiji to order”, the Governor noted.
However, the Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has expressed concern over the alarming spike in politically-motivated violence in the state targeted primarily at innocent citizens and supporters of our governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
The Council condemns in the strongest terms the growing culture of intimidation, harassment and violence being perpetrated by the criminal elements acting under the influence of the ruling party in the state.
According to him, “We call on Governor Ademola Adeleke to immediately call his political foot soldiers, janjaweed and thugs to order before they plunge Osun State into a deeper state of insecurity and make the state more ungovernable.
“Only this morning, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, campaign buses belonging to the APC were attacked and vandalized by suspected PDP/Accord bandits in the Owode-Ede area. The attack left several AMBO supporters severely injured while valuable campaign materials and property were destroyed. Such brazen acts of violence have no place in a democratic society and should worry every well-meaning citizen of Osun State.
“In the same Owode-Ede community some days ago, the business van of one of the leading APC campaigners, Alhaja Falilat Ẹrọ Erike, was reportedly disrupted by supporters believed to be loyal to Governor Adeleke.
“Members of staff of Ẹrọ Arike company at the scene were physically assaulted and injured.
“We gathered that they were warned never to set foot in Ede, the hometown of Governor Adeleke.
“The offence of Alhaja Ẹrọ Erike is her consistent criticism of the Nebuchadnezzar-style government in Osun State, which many citizens believe has inflicted severe economic hardship on the people.
“Even more disturbing is the report that one of Governor Adeleke’s appointees, Nurudeen Alowonle, who was arrested with a gun and ammunition two years ago and has reportedly remained on the run from the police, is at the moment leading a band of armed thugs in violent confrontations against a breakaway faction of his own group.
“Many innocent citizens have reportedly suffered injuries in the crossfire while law-abiding residents continue to live in fear as PDP/Accord-linked criminals turn parts of Osogbo into theatres of violence.
“The APC Governorship Campaign Council commiserates with all innocent citizens who lost loved ones, sustained injuries, or suffered the destruction of property and personal belongings as a result of today’s violent disturbances in Osogbo and other affected communities.
“The APC Governorship Campaign Council hereby appeals to the Inspector-General of Police and all relevant security agencies to urgently stem the rising tide of political violence in Osun State.
“We specifically call for the immediate investigation and arrest of those responsible for the attack on the business of Alhaja Ẹrọ Erike, the destruction of APC campaign buses in Owode Ede and the violence and chaos witnessed across Osogbo today,”. It added.
