Islamic groups in Kano State on Saturday staged a protest against United States President Donald Trump’s recent comments and alleged plans to intervene in Nigeria’s internal security crisis.
The protesters marched through parts of the city, displaying placards with inscriptions such as “We condemn Trump’s threat to attack Nigeria,” “There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria,” and “America wants to control our resources.”
Their action came in response to Trump’s statement designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged persecution of Christians and his warning that the U.S. military might intervene if the Nigerian government fails to curb killings of Christians.
In reaction, the Nigerian government dismissed the claim of a Christian genocide, insisting that the allegations were false and aimed at misrepresenting the nation’s internal security challenges.
