The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the driver involved in a fatal road accident that claimed two lives and involved British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua.

According to the Police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the driver of the Lexus SUV, registration number KRD 850 HN, is currently in custody while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

“Investigations are ongoing,” Babaseyi stated on Thursday, 1 January 2026.

The accident occurred at around 11:00 a.m. on Monday, 29 December 2025, near the Danco area along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s busiest highways linking Lagos and Ibadan.

The vehicle reportedly collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the deaths of two occupants identified as Ayodele Kelvin Olu, 36, a Nigerian-British citizen, and Gami Sina, 36, a British citizen—both close associates of Joshua.

Anthony Joshua, who was also in the vehicle at the time, was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, on 31 December after doctors confirmed he was fit to continue his recovery at home.

The announcement was jointly signed by Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, and Ogun State Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade.

Both states described the incident as “painful and deeply unfortunate” and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.

They prayed that God would grant the departed souls eternal rest and provide their loved ones the strength to bear the loss.

The statement revealed that Joshua, accompanied by his mother, visited a Lagos funeral home on Wednesday to pay their final respects to the two victims, whose bodies were being prepared for repatriation later that evening.

Anthony Joshua was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, late on Wednesday after doctors confirmed he was clinically fit to continue his recuperation at home.

Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State expressed deep gratitude to the public for their prayers, concern, and support following the accident. They also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “fatherly support” during the difficult period.

The statement further commended the medical staff at Lagoon Hospital for their professionalism, quality care, and dedication in attending to Joshua and other injured victims of the crash.
