The trial of former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retd), before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, was adjourned on Tuesday, October 8, 2025, to allow the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to update its list of witnesses.
Justice Charles Agbaza granted the adjournment, setting the new date for the continuation of the trial as October 31, 2025.
Dasuki faces prosecution by the EFCC on an amended 32-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving an alleged sum of ₦33.2 billion. His co-defendants in the case are a former General Manager of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Aminu Baba-Kusa, and two companies: Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Referral Hospital Limited. All defendants have pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.
During the proceedings, an EFCC detective, Adariku Michael, took the stand. He testified that the anti-graft agency initiated the investigation in September 2015 based on an intelligence report alleging large-scale movement of funds by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) between October 2014 and April 2015.
Michael explained that the case was assigned to a special task force and investigation activities commenced with a letter to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
However, Solomon Umoh, SAN, counsel to Baba-Kusa, objected to the detective’s testimony, pointing out that Michael’s name was not included on the EFCC’s original witness list. EFCC counsel, O. Atolagbe, countered by explaining that the witness had previously testified before the Chief Judge and had already tendered documents to the court.
Citing the fact that the matter has lasted for almost ten years, Atolagbe requested an adjournment to regularize the Commission’s witness list. The defense did not object to this request. Following submissions from both legal teams, Justice Agbaza granted the adjournment until the end of the month for the trial to continue.
