The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, Hon. Idowu Abiodun, has described the distribution of 300 motorcycles to security agencies as a clear demonstration of the unwavering commitment of local authorities to the safety and well-being of the people.
The distribution took place on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the State Police Headquarters in Osogbo. Beneficiaries included the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), vigilante groups, hunters, and various community security outfits.
Hon. Abiodun noted that the initiative aims to strengthen community policing and ensure no part of the state remains vulnerable. He attributed the success of the project to the increased autonomy granted to local governments under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“The motorcycles we are distributing today will enhance mobility, improve response time, and enable our security agencies to access difficult terrains, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas,” Abiodun stated. “When local governments are empowered to manage their resources and respond swiftly to the needs of their people, the impact is immediate and far-reaching.”
He further urged residents to remain vigilant and supportive, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.
In his remarks, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, commended ALGON for the intervention and assured that the assets would be used judiciously to combat crime.
“The donation of these motorcycles will undoubtedly enhance our operational capacity, particularly in hard-to-reach areas, and will improve response time and patrol coverage,” CP Gotan said. He also extended his gratitude to President Tinubu for the local government autonomy that made the gesture possible.
