…as Spokesperson fires back at opposition

The political tension surrounding the recent killings in Akinlalu escalated over the weekend as the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State chapter, publicly called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to assist the police investigation by producing the Commander of the state’s Amotekun Corps, Mr. Isaac Adekunle Omoyele.

The APC’s demand, however, was swiftly rejected by the Governor’s spokesperson, who accused the opposition of attempting to interfere with the rule of law.

In a statement signed by its State Media and Information officer, Kola Olabisi, the APC urged Governor Adeleke to prioritize the “exposition” and prosecution of those responsible for the “carnage of innocent souls” in Akinlalu.

The party raised serious allegations, stating, “If the news flying around in Osogbo, the state capital, is anything to go by that Omoyele, one of the crucial suspects in the dastardly act in Akinlalu, has been hibernating in the Government House, Osogbo, to evade the police arrest, it is condemnable, irresponsible, wicked and unpatriotic.”

The APC linked the Governor to the alleged aiding of a crime suspect, questioning why the commander of a state-owned security agency would turn himself into a “biblical fugitive Cain” running from police interrogation.

The party insisted that for the sake of justice and to redeem his personal and government image, Governor Adeleke must “instantly hand over the head of the killer Amotekun corps for justice.”

In a swift rebuttal, Governor Ademola Adeleke, through his Spokesperson, rejected the APC’s demands, describing the opposition’s allegations as “unfounded and baseless” and a desperate attempt by a “losing party struggling for relevance.”

The Governor’s office reaffirmed its confidence in the ongoing investigation into the unfortunate killings at Akinlalu and cautioned against the politicization of a serious law and order matter.

“The Akinlalu matter is a question of law and order and the Inspector General of Police has acted on the matter. The police is conducting an active investigation. Our government will not intervene or interfere,” the spokesperson stated.

The statement concluded with a caution to the public to allow due process to take its course without hindrance, adding, “The Osun APC in want of direction and strategy has grown to be a constant purveyor of fake news. We will not succumb to blackmail or surrender to a party that is more interested in destabilising the state than delivering on good governance.”
