Overland Airways, the primary commercial airline serving the Ilorin International Airport, has pledged to review ticket prices on its Lagos–Ilorin and Abuja–Ilorin routes after former Senate President Bukola Saraki intervened on behalf of travelers.
Saraki, who pioneered and developed the Ilorin flight routes during his time as Governor of Kwara State between 2003 and 2011, took to his X handle (@bukolasaraki) on Sunday to announce the move.
He noted that the decision came amid growing complaints from passengers about the sharp rise in ticket prices, which many say have become even higher than some longer domestic routes.
In his post, Saraki revealed that he personally reached out to Overland Airways’ CEO, Captain Edward Boyo, to express the frustrations of Kwarans and frequent flyers.
He wrote, “I just got off the phone with Captain Boyo, the CEO of Overland Airways, to discuss how the current fares on the Lagos–Ilorin and Abuja–Ilorin routes are becoming unaffordable for our people in this current economy.
“I reminded him of our long-standing relationship, his relationship with Kwara State and Kwarans and how we worked together to pioneer and develop these routes when I served as Governor.”
Saraki noted that the rising fares were putting air travel beyond the reach of many residents and urged the airline to act swiftly. Following the conversation, Overland Airways reportedly assured him that it would look into adjusting the prices soon.
“I am glad that he listened to my appeal and has promised to look into the pricing in the coming week. I am hopeful for a positive response,” Saraki added
