The newly posted Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Bassey Ewah, has assumed duty as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters in Osogbo.
AIG Ewah officially assumed office on Monday, September 14, 2026, following his posting to the zone, which comprises the Osun and Oyo State Police Commands.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ojedele Tunji, noted that the new AIG brings extensive operational, administrative, and leadership experience to the command.
An indigene of Etung Local Government Area in Cross River State, Ewah was born on July 28, 1968, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on May 18, 1992.
Before his new posting, Ewah served in several strategic and operational capacities. His previous roles include Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 15 in Maiduguri, Commissioner of Police for the Plateau State Command, and Deputy Commandant of the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State. He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police for Administration at both Federal Operations in Force Headquarters, Abuja, and the Lagos State Command, where he additionally functioned as second-in-command.
His extensive career further includes serving as Area Commander in Port Harcourt, Director of Liberal Studies at the Staff College, Divisional Police Officer across several divisions in Enugu State, second-in-command of the Department of Operations for the Enugu State Command, Officer-in-Charge of the State Intelligence Bureau, Patrol Commander for the Enugu State Command, and Squadron Commander of 7 PMF in Sokoto State.
Ewah has also completed various professional, operational, and leadership courses both in Nigeria and abroad. His training encompasses the Advanced Detective Course, Police Mobile Training Courses, Tactical Leadership Course, Strategic Leadership Course, and Operation Haske Biu at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji.
He also participated in United Nations and African Union courses on Human Resource Management in Ethiopia, alongside professional training programs in Kenya and Rwanda.
The statement described Ewah as a highly experienced and versatile police officer whose deployment brings discipline, professionalism, and strategic leadership to Zone 11.
Meanwhile, the police have assured residents of Osun and Oyo states of their continued commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and strengthening stakeholder collaboration for a safer society.
