Ahead of his second-term inauguration on October 16, 2026, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji has approved the immediate dissolution of boards, commissions, and parastatals in the state, alongside the termination of appointments for all political appointees.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Yinka Oyebode, explained that those affected by the termination include Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, and Technical Assistants. He noted that the decision became imperative in view of the gradual winding down of the governor’s first term in office.
However, Oyebode clarified that chairmen and members of statutory boards are unaffected by the dissolution. These exempted bodies include the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), the Civil Service Commission, the House of Assembly Service Commission, and the Judicial Service Commission.
Similarly, the governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions remain intact, in line with earlier directives by the governor.
The statement further noted that the chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Local Government Service Commission, and the Teaching Service Commission will remain in office, although their respective boards stand dissolved.
The statement also noted that Directors-General and Technical Advisers to the governor are also exempted from the termination of appointments.
Governor Oyebanji expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for their diverse contributions to the success of his administration and their service to the state, wishing them continued success in their future endeavors.
