The Chairman of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Abiodun Ejigbadero, has disbursed ₦30 million to support the livelihoods of residents, empowering 300 beneficiaries with ₦100,000 each under a cash transfer initiative aimed at boosting economic resilience.
The empowerment programme took place on Thursday as part of activities marking the second day of the chairman’s 100 days in office. The event also featured a free medical outreach, which provided residents with access to general health checks conducted by qualified medical personnel, as well as eye care services where corrective glasses were distributed.
Hon. Ejigbadero personally presented cheques to five beneficiaries during a symbolic ceremony before excusing himself to attend to official engagements. He explained that the funds would be credited directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts almost immediately and urged them to invest the money wisely.
According to the council boss, the cash transfer scheme will be implemented in phases and is designed to run monthly, with more residents expected to benefit in subsequent rounds.
“This is the first phase involving 300 people. Those benefiting now should use the funds productively, as others will be captured in the next phase,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the chairman, the Vice Chairman of the LCDA, Mr Shobayo Adetunji, said the intervention aligned with the directive of the All Progressives Congress leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which prioritises citizens’ welfare at the grassroots.
He highlighted other initiatives carried out by the administration, including the procurement of an ambulance and modern medical diagnostic equipment for the council’s health facilities, describing them as landmark achievements.
Mr Adetunji added that more empowerment programmes would follow in the coming months, culminating in a grand finale scheduled for January, which would include expanded food support and additional economic interventions.
Also speaking, the Leader of the Agbado Oke-Odo Legislative Council, Mr Giwa Aduragbemi, said the programme was part of the administration’s campaign promises, assuring residents that more projects and empowerment schemes were underway.
The Chairman of the Community Development Advisory Council in the area, Mr Alex Kasunmu, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, especially during the festive season.
He noted that the monthly injection of ₦30 million into the local economy would stimulate small businesses and improve household incomes if properly utilised.
Some beneficiaries expressed satisfaction with the chairman’s performance so far, stating that despite initial reservations about his emergence, the interventions had positively changed their perception and given them renewed confidence in his leadership.
