After days of commuters been stranded on the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road, the Federal Government is set to commence rehabilitate works on the major expressway.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday, by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze.
The statement confirmed that federal teams have been deployed to address critical degradation along the Ifaki-Kabba-Ado Ekiti axis and the Benin-Agbor-Asaba highway.
The Minister however expressed concern over the severe delays and economic disruption experienced by commuters and motorists stranded along the impacted routes.
“President Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently intervene and ensure that necessary corrective actions are taken to restore movement on the affected roads as quickly as possible,” Umahi stated.
Under the immediate intervention plan, the Minister of State for Works was dispatched to lead an assessment and remedial team to the Ifaki-Kabba-Ado Ekiti corridor spanning Ekiti and Kogi States. On-site technical operations commenced on Tuesday morning.
Simultaneously, Umahi led a high-level delegation, including members of the National Assembly Committees on Works, to Benin, Edo State, to convene an emergency stakeholder session. The meeting aimed to coordinate joint emergency repairs on the Benin-Agbor-Asaba corridor alongside representatives from the Edo and Delta State Governments and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Apologizing to commuters affected by long travel delays, the Minister assured the public that ongoing emergency operations would transition into long-term structural rehabilitation to ensure durable road conditions.
