The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has solidified its position as the premier financial powerhouse on the continent, ranking as the top Mandated Lead Arranger and Bookrunner in the 2025 Bloomberg Africa Borrower Loans League Tables.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by Afreximbank’s Communications Manager, Vincent Musumba, the bank captured a commanding 23.65% market share as a Mandated Lead Arranger, successfully executing 20 major transactions within the year. In its capacity as a Bookrunner, the bank secured a 21.66% market share through 14 high-value deals. These rankings underscore the bank’s increasing influence in structuring debt solutions and mobilizing the capital required to drive Africa’s economic recovery and growth.
Beyond its leadership in lead arranging, Afreximbank also ranked third as an Administrative Agent, overseeing a 13.92% market share across 13 distinct deals. Bloomberg’s league tables are widely regarded as the industry benchmark for tracking top-tier arrangers and advisers across loans, bonds, and equity markets.
The bank noted that a significant portion of these transactions was concentrated in the oil and gas sector. This strategic focus reflects Afreximbank’s ongoing intervention to bridge the massive financing gaps that currently exist in Africa’s energy landscape.
Reacting to the development, Haytham Elmaayergi, Executive Vice President of Global Trade Bank at Afreximbank, described the achievement as a reflection of the team’s “assiduous determination.” He reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to facilitating the flow of capital and promoting high-impact investments across the continent’s most critical economic sectors.
This latest performance continues a multi-year trend of Afreximbank sitting at the summit of Bloomberg’s rankings, reinforcing its status as a cornerstone of structured trade and project financing in Africa.
