Nigeria’s Super Eagles continued their impressive run at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a dominant 4–0 victory over Mozambique on Monday in Fes, sealing their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Ademola Lookman opened the scoring in the 20th minute, firing a powerful shot past goalkeeper Hernâni Siluane to give Nigeria an early advantage.
The Super Eagles doubled their lead five minutes later when Victor Osimhen tapped home from close range after Lookman delivered a perfectly timed cross, following a build-up involving Alex Iwobi.
Nigeria picked up where they left off after the break, with Osimhen completing his brace in the 47th minute. The Galatasaray striker calmly slotted in from close range after a slick assist from Lookman, further asserting Nigeria’s dominance.
The rout was completed in the 75th minute when Adams added the fourth goal with a clinical strike, effectively putting the result beyond doubt.
Mozambique struggled to cope with Nigeria’s attacking intensity and offered little resistance throughout the encounter.
Although goalkeepers Siluane and his replacement, Urrubal, made a few crucial saves, the Mambas failed to create any clear-cut scoring opportunities.
The Super Eagles controlled possession from start to finish, pressing high and keeping the Mozambican defence under constant pressure.
Despite late substitutions by Mozambique coach Eric Chelle in an attempt to salvage some pride, Nigeria’s attacking fluency proved too strong.
