Adeleke would have lost re-election if I was in Osun — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has claimed that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke would have lost his re-election bid if he had deployed to the state to lead the campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Tuesday during an inspection of flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja, Wike asserted that Adeleke’s victory was only possible because President Bola Tinubu chose not to pursue the governorship race aggressively.

According to the FCT Minister, had the President instructed him to deliver Osun to the APC at all costs, the outcome of the contest would have been entirely different, leaving the incumbent governor powerless to stop the ruling party.

“If the President had wanted to win the Osun State election at all costs, I would have been there and we would have won it, and there’s nothing the governor can do,” Wike stated.

The remarks come in the wake of the governorship election where Governor Adeleke was declared the winner.

Wike, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who currently serves in the APC-led federal cabinet, maintained that his presence on the ground would have altered the trajectory of the poll in favour of the ruling party.

Wike also predicted an even smoother victory for President Tinubu than in 2023 in the 2027 elections.

He argued that the political opposition across the country has been fundamentally dismantled and no longer poses a credible threat to the current administration.
