Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, pledging full implementation to consolidate the achievements recorded in the last three years.
Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the Government House, Osogbo, the Governor described the 2026 fiscal year as pivotal, marking the final year of his first term.
He stated that the budget is designed with expanded ambitions to complete ongoing projects and launch new initiatives for the public good.
Reflecting on his administration’s trajectory, Governor Adeleke noted that the last three budget cycles had laid a solid foundation for sustainable development.
He highlighted the clearance of billions of naira in pension and salary debts, the payment of promotion arrears, and the revitalization of previously neglected sectors.
“Our government has poured funding into agricultural mechanization, health and school rehabilitation, the construction of a new five-star stadium in Osogbo, over 250 kilometers of roads across the state, six road dualization projects in major towns, and three flyover bridges to ease traffic congestion,” Adeleke stated.
He further emphasized his administration’s commitment to fiscal prudence and economic growth.
“We ensure value for money in project selection and execution, moderating costs and reforming the procurement process in line with global best practices. By implementing a local content policy, we have stopped capital flight, ensuring Osun money services Osun people.”
The Governor disclosed that his administration approved nearly N4 billion for disbursement to cooperative movements to deepen the grassroots economy.
He also noted that the reactivation of free trade zones and the enhancement of the ease of doing business including a 45-day window for Certificate of Occupancy acquisition had tripled investment inflows from near zero in 2022 to a 40 percent increase.
Governor Adeleke presented a scorecard of his administration’s performance, citing data from federal agencies.
“Osun came first in the South West on Primary Health Care access for both 2024 and 2025. Our performance in national examinations improved from 33rd position in 2022 to 7th in 2024 and 2025. Furthermore, the Debt Management Office reports that Osun’s debt profile has reduced by over 40 percent, while our infrastructure deficit has been cut by 45 percent.”
Looking ahead to 2026, the Governor acknowledged the political significance of the year but assured citizens that governance would not be sacrificed for politics.
“The year 2026 is a dual year of mandate renewal and rolling out a new agenda. It is a year of consolidation and continuity. Although it is an election year, we will not allow governance to suffer. We must multi-task. I charge each ministry and agency to follow the established timelines for budget execution,” he directed.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the people of Osun for their support and promised not to disappoint the workforce, artisans, youth, and traditional rulers.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi; the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun; the Chief of Staff, Hon. Kazeem Akinleye; the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and other cabinet members.
