Special Adviser to the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, has called on the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration to respect local government autonomy by allowing duly elected chairmen and councillors reinstated by the Court of Appeal to serve out their three-year tenure.
Akinola disclosed this on Thursday while featuring on the breakfast morning show of TVC.
Speaking, Akinola urged Governor Adeleke to
respect the mandate of the people at the grassroots.
He stated that the local government crisis persists because the governor wants to control the third tier of government despite its autonomy.
He said that it is very important for the present administration to hands off the affairs of the local governments in the state for the real development at the local level.
Akinola added that the Chairmen of the local governments that are in office today have a mandate to serve for three years.
According to him, Governor Ademola Adeleke should keep his hands off the affairs of the local governments in Osun state. Let the chairmen, duly elected and reinstated into office after they were removed illegally by his administration, exercise that autonomy and run the administration for the three years which started in February.
“Respect the mandate of the local government chairman, duly elected, duly restated by the Court of Appeal, to serve out their three year tenure. Stop unleashed thugs on duely elected local government officials, stop creating crisis in a state where you should be the chief security officer.”
“There are elected chairmen in office. The crisis was instigated by the governor with many court cases. You remember the judgement of the Supreme Court in December, which lambasted the Attorney General of Osun state?,” he remarked
