The highly anticipated release of Adekunle Gold’s deluxe album, Fuji Xtra, has been moved from May 1 to May 8, 2026.
The singer, popularly known as “Big Fish,” confirmed the new date on social media, following internal discussions regarding the project’s final rollout.
The deluxe edition is a significant expansion of his 2025 Fuji album, adding five new tracks to the collection.
Among the confirmed additions are “Formation” featuring YBNL boss Olamide, “Shake Shake” with TML Vibez, and a highly personal collaboration with Simi titled “Blue Fire.”
While industry whispers initially suggested the move was a strategic play to avoid a chart clash with Asake’s upcoming M$NEY album, Olamide provided clarity on the situation.
He noted that the postponement was necessitated by tracklist errors on the distribution side, a technical glitch that was identified internally roughly 12 hours before the public announcement.
The release of Fuji Xtra represents more than just a “beefed-up” album; it is a calculated effort by Adekunle Gold to solidify his “Tequila Ever After” evolution within the Afrobeats-Fuji sub-genre.
By integrating the raw, percussion-heavy sounds of Fuji with high-end pop production, Gold is positioning himself as a bridge between the “old school” street sounds of Lagos and the global “Afropop” aesthetic.
The inclusion of Olamide and TML Vibez suggests a deliberate attempt to maintain “street credibility” while the collaboration with Simi provides the emotional depth his core fanbase expects.
The decision to delay by one week to fix distribution errors, rather than rushing a flawed tracklist, reflects a growing trend among top-tier Nigerian artists to prioritize digital metadata accuracy and “clean” DSP (Digital Service Provider) launches.
In an era where first-week streaming numbers are a primary currency of success, ensuring that every feature and songwriter is correctly credited is a mechanical necessity for long-term royalty management and chart eligibility.
