The Nigeria Police Force has promoted its former Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and redeployed him as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Delta State Command.

According to police sources, the development forms part of routine administrative measures intended to strengthen operational leadership across various commands in the country.

Adejobi’s elevation followed approval by the Police Service Commission (PSC), with his posting to Delta described as a “strategic assignment,” given that the state remains one of Nigeria’s most security-sensitive regions.

Top officers dismissed reports suggesting Adejobi had been “controversially removed” from his former spokesperson role, stressing that the move reflects professional recognition rather than disciplinary or political considerations.

“The deployment of officers is a normal administrative procedure in the Nigeria Police Force. DCP Adejobi’s record of professionalism, commitment, and service excellence made him a natural fit for this crucial operational responsibility,” a senior officer at Force Headquarters told reporters.

In his new capacity, Adejobi will be responsible for coordinating tactical deployments, supervising field operations, and spearheading anti-crime strategies across Delta State. His portfolio also covers the containment of violent crime, resolution of communal conflicts, crisis response, and fostering stronger police-community relations in a state regarded as a flashpoint in Nigeria’s security landscape.

Delta State has for years grappled with persistent challenges, including armed robbery, kidnapping, oil theft, and protracted communal disputes. Adejobi’s appointment is expected to inject renewed operational vigour while drawing on his expertise in communication and policing reforms to strengthen trust with local communities.

The senior officer has previously served in a wide range of command and staff positions across the country, earning recognition for his contributions to modernising police communication and advancing community policing.

“With his wealth of experience in public communication, operational management, and community policing, DCP Adejobi’s new role is not only a promotion in rank but also a posting to a more strategic and sensitive position,” another senior police source remarked.
