The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified that newly elected state executives and other party officers will not assume office until after their formal inauguration scheduled for May 12, 2026.
In a press statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC stated that the tenure of the newly elected officials would only commence upon the expiration of the current executives tenure and their official swearing in.
The party emphasised that, until the completion of the transition process, all existing executives remain the duly recognised officers of the party.
“For the avoidance of doubt, all existing executives remain the duly recognised officers of the Party until the completion of this constitutional transition process,” the statement noted.
The ADC further cautioned newly elected executives, particularly at the state level, to refrain from actions or representations that could contradict the party’s constitutional provisions or create confusion within its structure reiterating its commitment to maintaining order, discipline, and strict adherence to its constitution and democratic processes.
