…says ruling will allow more defections from APC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has praised a recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja on the timeline for party primaries and other electoral matters, describing it as a validation of the party’s long-standing concerns over certain electoral guidelines.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the court’s decision supported its earlier objections to provisions relating to membership registration deadlines and the scheduling of party primaries.
According to the ADC, the ruling addressed aspects of the guidelines that it believed were inconsistent with constitutional provisions and affirmed the position it had maintained since the guidelines were introduced.
The party further noted that the judgment removed restrictions that could have hindered politicians from seeking alternative political platforms, describing the development as a boost for freedom of association and democratic participation.
The ADC also argued that the now-invalidated provision appeared intended to discourage defections from the ruling All Progressives Congress, expressing confidence that the ruling will allow the opposition to attract defections from the APC in the coming months.
