The Accord Party, Irewole Local Government Chapter, has condemned what it described as the barbaric, unprofessional, and unprovoked shooting incident at the Naira and Kobo Garage in Ikire, which led to the deaths of a commercial bus driver, Saheed Akinrole, and an unidentified passenger.
According to eyewitness accounts cited by the party, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Irewole Division, Mr. Bamidele Olatona, arrived at the public garage and opened fire into a crowd of unarmed civilians.
The party characterized the conduct as reckless and indicative of an officer lacking the professional stability required to carry a service weapon.
The party described the incident as part of a recurring pattern of partisan hostility and institutional failure defining Olatona’s tenure in Irewole.
It alleged that during the pre-election and election periods, the DPO failed to arrest known perpetrators of political violence and instead provided official cover for armed thugs terrorizing local communities.
Stating that his continued presence in office poses a direct risk to public safety, the party demanded that the Inspector-General of Police, the Osun State Police Command, and the Police Service Commission intervene immediately.
The chapter called for Olatona’s prompt arrest, psychological evaluation, dismissal from the Force, and criminal prosecution for murder and abuse of office.
