The Governing Council of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has officially approved the appointment of Professor Adamu Ahmed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the prestigious institution.
This decision was made following the 209th Special Council meeting held on Wednesday, and presided over by the Council Chairman, Alhaji Mahmud Yayale-Ahmed.
A statement issued by Malam Auwalu Umar, the Director of Public Affairs at ABU, confirmed the approval of the appointment.
The appointment comes as a development in the continued evolution of the institution.
Professor Ahmed, a highly respected scholar in the field of urban and regional planning, has spent over three decades contributing to the growth and academic excellence of ABU.
He has held numerous academic and administrative roles at the university, including Head of the Urban and Regional Planning Department, Deputy Director of ABU Consultancy Services, and Director of the Directorate of University Advancement.
Professor Ahmed’s academic credentials are equally impressive, having earned his first, second, and PhD degrees at ABU.
His longstanding association with the university has shaped his deep understanding of its challenges and opportunities, positioning him as a capable leader to steer ABU into its next phase of development.
In June 2024, Professor Ahmed was appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Education, Kano, by President Bola Tinubu.
