In a major boost to the state’s human capital, the Ogun State Government has officially absorbed over 1,500 OgunTEACh interns into the mainstream civil service, issuing them their appointment letters during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

The move forms part of a broader milestone that has seen the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun employ over 7,000 teachers since its inception to bridge staffing gaps across public schools.

Represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, Governor Abiodun underscored the pivotal role of educators, describing them as the bedrock of societal development.

“Before a doctor learns to treat patients or an engineer designs a bridge, a teacher has awakened their minds and laid the foundation they are building upon,” the Governor stated.

Reinforcing its commitment to infrastructural growth, the administration disclosed that ₦24 billion has been earmarked through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for the provision and rehabilitation of critical education facilities across the state.

The state government also revealed that over ₦51 million in cash prizes was distributed to outstanding teachers, school administrators, and institutions.

First-prize winners in the Best Teacher categories went home with ₦2.5 million each, while second- and third-place winners received ₦1.5 million and ₦1 million respectively.

Standout institutions like Community Nursery and Primary School, Mike II, and Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu, received ₦10 million each as the Best Schools in their respective primary and junior secondary categories.

The celebration also spotlighted administrative milestones. The Ogun State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Sewakanu Noah Oladipupo, commended the government for lifting the longstanding career ceiling that prevented primary school teachers from progressing beyond Grade Level 16, a move he noted has restored dignity and equity to primary education.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Olasoji Tobiloba expressed deep appreciation to Governor Abiodun for absorbing the interns, pledging that the newly confirmed teachers would reciprocate the gesture through renewed dedication and diligence in classrooms across the state.
