The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian-born nurse and social media personality, Mrs. Bemi Orojuogun, popularly known as “London Bus Aunty,” following the naming of a London bus stop in her honour.
Dabiri-Erewa described the recognition as a remarkable achievement and a source of pride for Nigeria and Nigerians in the diaspora.
In a statement signed by NiDCOM’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the commission said Orojuogun’s journey demonstrated how passion, authenticity and positive representation of one’s heritage could create an impact beyond Nigeria.
Orojuogun gained popularity through her engaging social media videos featuring London’s iconic red buses and her unique personality. Her content has allowed her to connect with audiences while showcasing aspects of everyday life in the United Kingdom.
Reacting to the recognition, Dabiri-Erewa commended Orojuogun for using her platform to bring joy to people and positively represent Nigerians in the United Kingdom.
She said the honour was a reflection of the impact Nigerians were making in their various communities across the world.
“Mrs. Orojuogun’s journey demonstrates how passion, authenticity and a positive representation of one’s heritage can create an impact far beyond the shores of Nigeria,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
The NiDCOM chairman also applauded Transport for London (TfL) for recognising Orojuogun’s contribution and her strong connection with the city’s transport community.
According to her, the recognition goes beyond an individual achievement, as it also highlights the contributions of Nigerians who continue to distinguish themselves in different sectors and communities outside the country.
Dabiri-Erewa urged Orojuogun to regard the honour as an encouragement to continue using her platform positively and inspiring others.
She assured Nigerians living abroad that their achievements and contributions remained important to the country and would continue to be celebrated.
The NiDCOM chairman expressed confidence that the recognition would inspire other Nigerians in the diaspora to remain committed to their professions, communities and initiatives while maintaining a positive connection with their Nigerian heritage.
She further wished Orojuogun continued success and described the recognition as “well-deserved.”
The honour has added to the growing visibility of Nigerians making an impact abroad, with Orojuogun’s distinctive social media presence helping to build a connection between her Nigerian identity and her life in the United Kingdom.
For Dabiri-Erewa, the recognition serves as another reminder that Nigerians in the diaspora continue to contribute meaningfully to the societies where they live while also projecting the country positively.
She said Nigerians should be proud of Orojuogun’s achievement and encouraged her to continue inspiring others through her work and public engagement.
“Her achievements and contributions remain a source of pride to the nation,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
The commission wished the social media personality greater success as she continues her activities and engagement with audiences in the United Kingdom and beyond.
