Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commenced the distribution of ₦350 million ($250,000) in interest-free loans to 1,000 residents.
The initiative aims to empower small business clusters, strengthen grassroots economies, and promote sustainable development across Kwara communities.
The project is funded by the World Bank under the Community Revolving Fund (CRF) and implemented through the State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (Kwara ACReSAL).
Beneficiaries were selected from various community interest groups, with each group receiving approximately $25,000.
Speaking, Governor AbdulRazaq described the initiative as a practical step toward poverty reduction.
“This initiative is designed to provide our women, youth, farmers, and cooperatives with resources to create wealth and generate employment. You are leading the way with these funds, and prompt repayment is required to ensure others can benefit in the future,” the Governor told the pioneer beneficiaries.
Hon. Nafisat Musa Buge, Commissioner for Environment and Chairman of the ACReSAL Steering Committee, emphasized that the program’s success depends on the diligence of the beneficiaries in utilizing and repaying the funds.
She also noted that Kwara ACReSAL recently provided potable water to several rural communities to improve general living conditions.
The Emir of Shonga, Dr. Haliru Yahaya, and beneficiary representative, Mrs. Abdulkareem Olapeju both commended the Governor for his commitment to inclusive community development and life-changing investments.
