Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has commissioned the newly rehabilitated Otte/Budo-Egba Waterworks in Asa Local Government Area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving access to clean and safe water across the state.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Monday in Otte town, the Governor said the completion of the 500,000-litre capacity water facility reflects his administration’s vision to modernize water infrastructure and enhance public welfare.

“This is not just about giving clean water to our people. The project brings comfort and renewed confidence in the power of our government to deliver,” the Governor said.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Jidda, the Governor noted that access to safe and reliable water supply remains a top priority of his administration.

He explained that the rehabilitation of Otte/Budo-Egba Waterworks is part of a broader strategy to revamp water systems across Kwara, adding that clean water plays a crucial role in improving public health and supporting education.

“Access to clean water improves public health by reducing the prevalence of waterborne diseases. It supports education, as children no longer have to spend hours fetching water instead of being in school,” he added.

The Governor commended the contractors for their professionalism and appreciated the people of Otte and its environs for their patience and cooperation throughout the project.

He also acknowledged the support of development partners and agencies that contributed to the success of the initiative.

AbdulRazaq listed other ongoing water rehabilitation projects, including Omu-Aran, Oyun, and Sobi Waterworks, emphasizing that access to clean water is a fundamental right of every Kwaran. He pledged continued investment in the sector to ensure sustainable water supply statewide.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade, urged residents to protect the facility from vandalism and take ownership of it.

He noted that the government had invested millions of naira in improving water accessibility and sanitation across Kwara.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Asa Local Government Area, Alhaji Amasa, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for what he described as a “beneficial and gigantic project.”

“I know the hardship my people faced in search of water during the dry season. Their apprehension has been addressed by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. We are very happy and grateful,” he said.
