Aba Power, Nigeria’s newest electricity distribution company has assured the residents of Umuomainta in the Mbawsi-Nsulu area of Ngwa North Local Government Area, Abia State, that electricity supply will be restored in time for the Easter weekend.
Recall that the community is currently experiencing a power outage that has lasted for over two weeks following the destruction of six high-tension poles..
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the company’s Senior Brand and Communications Manager, Edise Ekong, the damage was part of a broader trend of infrastructure loss caused by recent windstorms and heavy-duty vehicle accidents.
Ekong noted that the utility has lost over 70 high-tension and 10 low-tension poles within the last three weeks alone as the rainy season begins.
The restoration efforts faced slight delays due to an unprecedented surge in demand for electric poles across the Aba Ring-fenced Area.
This demand is driven by rapid industrial growth, the construction of a new airport, and the extension of power to communities that had been in darkness for years, such as Nvosi and Ntigha.
To address the shortage, Managing Director Barrister Ugo Opiegbe directed the company to source cured poles from neighboring Port Harcourt and other regional suppliers.
Aba Power highlighted that the current pressure on the network is a direct result of expanding economic activity in nine local government areas.
The company is currently finalizing a 41-kilometer dedicated line for manufacturers in Ukwa West and has successfully revived power in several towns in Ukwa East and West LGAs that lacked supply for years.
Despite the upcoming Good Friday public holiday, the company confirmed that technical teams will remain on duty 24/7 to ensure the installation of the newly acquired poles.
Residents can expect a return to regular and quality service by the start of the holiday weekend as the utility continues its work to modernize the inherited, aged infrastructure across the state.
