No fewer than 82 graduands of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, are set to graduate with first-class degree honors out of a total of 8,119 students for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen ahead of the university’s 13th Convocation ceremony scheduled for the weekend.
He said that of the total graduating students, 1,986 will earn second-class upper degrees, 4,195 will graduate with second-class lower degrees, and 1,355 will receive third-class honors.
Professor Jimoh also revealed that 426 students will graduate with master’s degrees, while 82 will obtain doctoral degrees during the period.
The Vice Chancellor noted that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) has approved a N1 billion special intervention project to complete the library annex at the institution. He added that the university has embarked on new construction projects while ensuring the maintenance of existing structures to promote academic excellence.
He highlighted that KWASU scholars continue to attract high-impact research grants, particularly in the fields of engineering and agriculture, and commended the state government for patronizing the university’s vehicle conversion services to rehabilitate grounded government vehicles.
Professor Jimoh stressed that undergraduate entrepreneurship training has been adopted to expose students to new opportunities and cultivate skills to become job creators. He also noted that staff welfare packages have been sustained, including school fee rebates for up to four biological children of staff studying at the university.
The Vice Chancellor urged the state government to assist in constructing a flyover on the major highway linking the university community to reduce frequent accidents at the Shao/Jebba Road junction.
“KWASU is one of the pilot institutions of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG). That is why the university has established two CNG conversion centers in Malete and Loro, and the institution will also receive CNG buses and tricycles to improve mass transit on campus,” he added.
