61yr old chief remanded over alleged attempted murder in Iyin-Ekiti

27 Aug 2026

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has ordered the remand of a 61-year-old chief, Cosmos Oluwafemi, over alleged attempted murder.

Oluwafemi was arraigned in connection with an attack on Olawale Aderibigbe on August 15, 2026, within the Iyin-Ekiti Magisterial District.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court there were sufficient grounds to suspect the defendant of committing the offense, which contravenes Section 241 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

Oriyomi urged the court to remand the defendant for 30 days to enable the police to conclude their investigation, noting that the case file had been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Although the defendant’s counsel, Mr. Emmanuel Adedeji, made representations on behalf of his client, the court did not take Oluwafemi’s plea.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ordered that Oluwafemi be remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Facility and adjourned the matter to September 25, 2026, for mention.
