The Nigerian Union of Journalists, (NUJ)Anambra Council says its upcoming Press Week will offer it the opportunity to reflect on its achievements and challenges facing journalism.
This is contained in a statement issues on Thursday in Awka by council chairman Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, secretary, Dr Okechukwu Onuegbu and Mr Francis Ekpone, chairman press week committee.
The theme of the 2026 NUJ Anambra 35th Anniversary is: “NUJ Anambra, 35 Years On: Reporting with Truth, Responsibility and Service.”
According to them some of the dignitaries expected at the events are: Gov. Charles Soludo and his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim.
Also expected to attend are: Anambra House of Assembly Speaker, Dr Somtochukwu Udeze and the Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu as well as NUJ President, Mr Alhassan Yahya.
They said part of the activities marking the event would be visit to the Correctional Centre, the destitute and motherless babies homes.
They said the highlight of this year’s celebration would be the conferment of Man of Year Award on the Chairman and Founder, Ichie Akubudike Foundation, High Chief Martin Nwabueze.
Nwabueze who hails from Umudioka, Dunukofia Local Government Area, was selected for the award based on his contributions to humanity.
“The 2026 NUJ Man of the Year, Chief Martin Nwabueze, has distinguished himself in business, construction and the oil and gas sector.
“He is expected to share the occasion with other distinguished award recipients,” they said.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Okey Ezeobi received the award in 2025.
“The award to Chief Martin Nwabueze comes as the NUJ, Anambra State Council, celebrates its 35th anniversary, marking three and a half decades of journalism, service, resilience and professional achievements,” they said.
